According to greek mythology, Athens was founded by the goddess Athena.

The mythical creation of Barcelona is attributed to Heracles (Hercules in roman tradition).

Legend tells that both Heracles and Hermes (his stepbrother) sailed to the Iberian peninsula with nine boats.
They travelled with Jason on an argonautical expedition looking for the golden fleece.

Their ship number nine was lost and appeared in front of the Montjuïc mountain. The god, really liked the place so he decided to found a city called “Barca nona”, in reference to the ninth lost boat.

Several Hermes statues and representations decorate the streets, squares and houses of the city. Barcelona remains under the influence of Hermes, god of commerce, travel, arts, ...
