16th International New Roses Competition

The sixteenth edition of the International New Roses Competition brought together over ninety varieties of roses in Cervantes Park (Barcelona).

Roses of all colours, sizes and aromas. Cervantes Park was the nerve centre of this three-day contest, which is held every year to mark the first flowering of roses and highlight, according to the criteria of an international jury, the best new creations made by rose cultivators from around the world.

The members of the international jury were tasked with selecting the best roses in fifteen different categories. This year saw 544 roses entered in the competition. The rose that obtained the best overall score and carried off the Barcelona Special Rose Prize was a French rose, from the creator Michael Adam.

All the varieties of roses entered in the competition had never been seen by the public before, let alone marketed. Rose cultivators need to work for ten years to create a new variety. This year’s edition saw thirty rose breeders from nine countries, who entered a total of 92 varieties of new roses in the competition.

1996. Obtentor: Delbard (França)
